Sabin, Jefferson L., was born in Ithaca, November 27, 1838. His father was born in Lewis county and came to
Ithaca in 1835, bought what was known as the David D. Spencer property, and where our subject was born. He was
educated in the common schools, and finished at the old Ithaca Academy, under Professors Carr and Williams. At
the age of twenty five he married Miranda Van Order, daughter of Henry Van Order of Ithaca, and they have two children,
Burritt and Charles. In 1869 he bought what is known as the Stephen Bucklin property and in 1884 he bought the
Ireland farm, having 156 acres of some of the most productive farm land in the town, raising large amounts of hay,
grain and stock, making a specialty of hay crop. He is recognized in his town as a practiced and successful farmer,
a man of conservative and independent ideas, taking an active and intelligent interest in educational and religious
matters.
