Kennedy, J. H., was born in the town of Dryden, December 11, 1838. His father was a native of Mount Pleasant,
Pa., and was engaged in the business of tanner and currier. In 1835 he came to the town of Dryden and established
the same business, which he followed up to the time of his decease, which occurred in 1882, Our subject was educated
in the common schools of Dryden and after leaving school engaged in business with his father, the same business
which he now carries on, making a specialty of fine uppers and harness leather, and having an average yearly production
of 20,000 sidek At the age of thirty two he was married to Persis E. Sykes, daughter of Geo. M. Sykes, of Berkshire,
Tioga county, Pa. They have four children, one son, William W., and three daughters, Carrie, Cora and Jennie. Our
subject is Republican in politics and has been supervisor of the town for six years and chairman of the board for
two years. He has also been a member of the Board of Education for several years, and is a trustee of the Presbyterian
church, taking an active interest in educational and religious matters.
