Houtz, Col. George H., was born in the town of Dryden, July 16, 1835. His father, John H. Houtz, was engaged
in the merchandise and milling business, building the Etna mills in 1835, which at his decease, which occurred
in 1869: was continued by his son, Col. George H. Houtz. Our subject received his education in the common schools
and after leaving school at once joined his father in his many business interests. He takes the Republican side
in politics and has been town clerk for twenty five consecutive years, but an active business life has prevented
the acceptance of many nominations tendered him. Our subject is one of the prominent business men in his towns,
a man noted for his ability and energy, prominently identified in advancing its best interests and in educational
and religious matters.
