Darling, Edward, was born in Groton, March 5, 1837. His father, Reuben Darling, came from Vermont and settled at Locke in 1810, and enlisted in the United States army and tookpart in the war of 1812, in which he was a musician. Edward Darling was educated in the common schools and finished at the Groton Academy. At the age of twenty two he married Mary, daughter of Charles Niven, of Groton, and they are the parents of two sons: Chas. R., and Fred L. In 1867 he bought the Wesley Underwood farm of 110 acres on which he has erected one of the handsomest residences in the town. He raises hay, grain and stock, making a specialty of dairying. Our subject is one of the leading farmers in the town, where he is known as a man of sterling worth and integrity and is recognized as a practical and successful farmer.
