Biography of Alpheus Crawford

Crawford, Alpheus, was born in Ithaca, September 4, 1818. His father, H. B. Crawford, was a native of Hopewell, Orange county, born May 26, 1792, and he was a harness and boot and shoe maker. He also bought a farm, part of which is now owned by our subject, and in 1817 he married Maria Rowe, of Montgomery, Orange county, by whom he had four children. Of these our subject was the oldest. The latter married, December 29, 1844, Matilda J. Stamp, of Auburn, and they had eight children, one of whom died at the age of thirty three years. All are married save two, one son, from whom they have not heard in fifteen years, and the oldest daughter, who remains with her parents. in politics Mr. Crawford is Democratic. Alpheus Crawford died February 19, 1894.
