SAMUEL F. FAIRCHILD was born in Guilford, N. Y., July 20, 1832, and lived on a farm until about 25 years old
when he went west. After a year and a half he returned and came to Owego in 1860, from which time he has been in
some manner identified with its business life; first with the railroad company, then as clerk for Luce & Anthony,
on Lake street, and afterward he opened a hat, cap and fur store for James Wilson, with whom he was connected until
1888 ; later for another proprietor until 1893, when he went into the coal business. In 1895 he became partner
with Mr. Harris, dealer in boots and shoes. Mr. Fairchild is a straight, firm republican, but has held no office
other than member of the local health board. He has been married three times ; first with Seressa M. Hedges, of
Newark Valley; second with Janette Hooker, and in 1889 with M. Augusta Townley, widow of R. A. Allen.
