Mather, B. S., was born in Monroe county, N. Y., January 11, 1826, son of Buckley and Experience (Spencer) Mather, natives of Massachusetts and New York, respectively, who came to Tuscarora in 1836, where they died. He was a farmer by occupation, and was in the war of 1812. He was a Democrat in politics, but became a Republican when that party was organized. B. S. Mather was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools, and is now engaged in farming and owns 102 acres of land. October 20, 1850, he married Louisa Blend, of Tuscarora, by whom he had six children: Vernum, Ida, Charles, Carrie, Esther, and Kate.
