Flaherty, James, was born in the town of Prattsburg, June 10, 1868. His father, John O., was a farmer and twenty years of his early life were spent on the farm and attending school alternately. In 1888 he graduated from Franklin Academy, Prattsburg, N. Y., and then took up the study of law. In 1871 he received the degree of Bachelor of Laws at Cornell University, and in January, 1892, was admitted to the bar. In the Cleveland and Harrison campaign he was in the employ of the Democratic campaign committee, and made an extensive stumping tour through the State, demonstrating himself a strong and effective speaker. In 1893 he opened an office at Prattsburg where he has since practiced his profession. In August, 1893, he was appointed postmaster at Prattsburg and is the present incumbent of the office.
