Burt, John M., was born in Warren county in 1831, son of Amasa Burt, who came from Warren county to Chemung county in 1845, and to Steuben county in 1854, where he died in 1875, aged seventy five years. He married Sarah Ward, who died in 1878, aged seventy one years. In 1851 John M. Burt went to Minnesota, where he engaged in the mercantile business until 1858, and has since resided on the farm. While in Minnesota he was clerk of the House of Representatives. He has 105 acres in his home place and also owns a farm of 140 acres in Chemung county, and has real estate interests in Minnesota. He has never married. His sister, Miss Cordelia, lives with him, while another sister, Mrs. Lucius Tuttle, lives on an adjoining farm.
