Leonard Murphy. - One of the well known business men of Waddington is Leonard Murphy, who is associated with Murphy Bros. St. Lawrence Garage, and he is a veteran of the World War. He was born in this city in 1899, the son of Michael D. and Mary A. (Gorman) Murphy.

Leonard Murphy received his education in the public schools of Waddington and attended Albany Business College. Until 1917 he was interested in the trucking and transfer business, and in 1917 he entered the World War. He went to France in May, 1918, with the 301st Engineers. He saw much active service at the front and was discharged at Camp Devon, Mass., in May, 1919. Since 1921 he has been associated in business with his brother, Frank L. Murphy, and they are agents for the Ford Motor Company.

In 1919 Mr. Murphy married Miss Catherine Ricalton, of Waddington. Her father was a teacher in early life and was later identified with the interests of Thomas Edison. In the interest of one of Mr. Edison's experiments a trip was made to Africa by Mr. Ricalton.

Mr. Murphy belongs to the American Legion.
