Johnson, J. B., Gouverneur, was born in Gouverueur, Octoher 14, 1850, and after a few years spent in mercantile
business, he worked for the Gouverncur Iron Ore Company. Next he entered the employ of the St. Lawrence Manufacturing
Company. In 1885 he purchased an interest in the Gouverneur Machine Company. In 1886 it was organized as a stock
company and Mr. Johnson has been its manager and secretary ever since. In 1870 he married Libby, daughter of Hugh
Bowtelle. His father, one of the early settlers of Gouverneur, was John Johnson, born in Johnstown, Fulton county,
N. Y., the son of Caleb Johnson, wounded at battle of Saratoga, in the Revolutionary war.
