Biography of Charles Farwell

Farwell, Charles, Gouverneur, was born in Oswegatchie, February 18, 1856. His father was a farmer, and Charles followed that occupation until twenty years ago. He then took a position with Turner Brothers, of Ogdensburg, remaining about six years. Thence he went to the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company (extcnsion), remaining eight months, at the end of that time returned to Ogdensburg. In 1881 Mr. Farwell married Ida Willard, and they have one daughter, Ercil May. In 1881 he came to Gouverneur, and subsequently became connected with the Globe Motel, Watertown, for over four years. He returned to Gouverneur in 1885, remaining three years, when he went to Jacksonville, Florida, and engaged in the furniture business. He returned to Gonverneur in 1890 and for some time was engaged in paper hanging and painting. He began his present business (liquor dealer), January 28, 1892. Mrs. Farwell is a daughter of Abel Willard and is an attendant of the Baptist Church. Mr. Farwell is recognized as one of the live business men of the town.
