Biography of Ryland A. Crary

Crary, Ryland A., Pierrepont, was born in Pierrepont. on the farm he now owns, August 25, 1850. He is a son of Stephen A. Crary, a son of Nathan. Stephen A. Crary was born in Potsdam in 1812, and was a young man when his parents came to Pierrepont. His wife was Juliet Reynolds, whom he married in 1832, and they had six children. Mrs. Crary died, and he married Mary Smead, by whom he had two children. Crary was a farmer and owned 270 acres of land. He died July 30, 1880, and his wife August 21, 1890. Ryland A. Crary was reared on a farm and educated in the common school. He has always followed farming and breeding Hambletonian and Phil Sheridan horses. He owns the old homestead, consisting of 270 acres, and at present has thirty head of fine horses, with Ryswood 216 at head of herd. Mr. Crary also keeps a fine dairy of twenty five cows. Ha has been twice married: first to Maria Bacheller, by whom he had one child, Maud A. Mrs. Crary died in 1873, and in 1875 he married Orley Holcomb, by whom he had four children: Maria E,, Mack L., Nathan C., Gretchen C. In politics Mr. C. is a Republican, but not an aspirant for office.
