Lighdc, John, one of the leading provision dealer of Saratoga Springs, is a native of Germany, born in Bavaria,
March 28, 1853. His father was a well-to-do farmer and in his earlier years he worked on the farm and attenaed
school, acquiring a good education. When but fourteen years old-he began to learn the butcher's trade and. has
followed this occupation all his life. He came to this country in 1871 and settled first in New York city, where
he remained a short time and later worked at his trade in Oswego and Albany. In 1872 he came to Saratoga Springs
and in 1876 began a provision business, locating at the intersection of Clark and White streets. Later he removed
to No. 41 Lake avenue, where he conducted a store for over twenty years. He removed to his present location in
the spring of 1898. Mr. Lighdc has been a useful and respected citizen of Saratoga Springs and enjoys the entire
confidence of the business community. He married in 1883.
