Gray, Endress, was born at Altamont, Albany county, N. Y., October 20. 1851, educated in the district schools
and Albany High School, and in early life was a farmer. He was a grocery merchant at Princeton, Schenectady county,
N. Y., three years and then sold. to other parties. He came to Mechanicville in 1883 and has been foreman of the
transfer department of the Fitchburg Railroad Company several years. Mr. Gray's father, Jonathan D. Gray, was born
at the old home in Albany county, N. Y., in 1826; educated in the schools of his day and was a farmer. He married
Mary Ann Ostrander of his native place and they had eight children: Endress (as above), Henrietta, Sarah, Walter,
Millard, Anna, Emmitt and Cora. Mr. Gray died in 1882; his widow survives now in 1898. Endress Gray is a member
of Noah Lodge of Altamont, N. Y., No. 754, F. & A. M., and is a member of the Dutch Reformed church. In his
political choice he is independent; ancestry of family is Dutch on both sides.
