Smith, Charles H., was born in the city of Albany, N. Y., September 7, 1854. He was educated there in the public
schools, and entered the employ of the Troy City Railway Co. in the year 1870, first as barn boy. In 1880 he was
made foreman; in 1881 he was appointed general superintendent; in the year 1885 he was appointed general superintendent
of all the lines under this contract, and later when the Troy & New England Railroad was built, he was appointed
general manager of the road; he is one of the directors and is one of the executive committee. July 7, 1887, he
was married to Catharine Canner of Cohoes, Albany county, N. Y. They have had two sons, William and Charles A.
Mr. Smith is a member of Cohoes Lodge No. 116, F. & A. M., of Cohoes Chapter No. 168, R. A. M., of Apollo Commandery
No. 15, K. T., Delta Lodge of Perfection, Delta Council P. of J., Delta Chapter, Rose Croix of Albany. He is a
member of the Waterford Club of Waterford, Saratoga county, and a member of the celebrated Apollo Drill Corps.
