Pitts, Alvah, born January 14, 1815, is the son of William and Charity (Hoag) Pitts, who came to Nassau in an
early day and settled about three miles north of where Mr. Pitts now lives and there both lived and died, Mr. Pitts
was a farmer by occupation; he and his wife were members of the M. E. church. Alvah has been one of the successful
farmers of the town. He located on his farm in 1865, but in 1883 removed to Nassau. He was married in 1840 to Margaret
Traver of Schodack, N. Y. They have three children: William H., who married Lavina Germond; they have three children:
Anna, Bertha, and J. Alvah. After her death he was married to Mrs. Ida Fickle, by whom he has two children: Margaret
and Oscar. George, who married Emma Taylor of Saratoga county, N. Y. Susan J. is the wife Martin P. Carpenter of
New Lebanon, N. Y. Mr. Pitts has been assessor eleven years. The family attend the M. E. church.
