Clapp & Hines, is composed of Alexander H. Clapp and Arthur W. Hines. Mr. Clapp is a native of Kinderhook,
Columbia county, born February 20, 1858. He is a son of Alexander Clapp, who was born in Stuyvesant, Columbia county.
His wife was Leah Van Housen, born in Greene county, N. Y. The grandfather of Mr. Clapp was Alexander Clapp of
Massachusetts. Mr. Clapp was educated in the common schools and came to Troy in 1878 and was special officer for
the Burden Iron Company for eleven years. In 1892 he came to Greenbush and went in partnership with A. W. Hines
in the grocery and meat business. In 1889 Mr. Clapp married Margaret Hines, daughter of Andrew Hines, who was born
in Ireland and came to Greenbush at an early day, where he lived and died. His wife was Eliza Macleese. To Mr.
and Mrs. Clapp was born one son: Alexander. Mr. Hines was born in Greenbush, August 18, 1863, and was educated
in the common schools. He was engineer in Burden's Iron Works of Troy for two years, and was fireman for the B.
& A. railroad for six years previous. In 1892 he joined Mr. Clapp in the grocery and meat business. He is now
inspector of election in the Seventh district. He is a member of Greenbush Lodge No. 337, F. & A. M., of Greenbush
Chapter No. 274, R. A. M., De Witt Clinton Council No. 22, R. & S. M., the Templar Commandery No. 3, K. T.,
and is also a member of the B. L. F. No. 214, of Greenbush.
