Biography of George T. Butler

Butler, George T., was born in Troy in 1859. His grandfather, John Butler, came from Yorkshire, England, about the year 1820, was very prominent in Lansingburgh politics and died in 1884. His father was born in Lansingburgh, was a brush manufacturer by trade and previous to his death, which occurred in 1865, he was in business with his brother manufacturing those articles. His mother, Mary F. (Sands) Butler, was a native of Troy, N. Y. He received a public school education and entered the drug store of R. H. Lawton where he remained eight years. He then took a position with D. F. Magill and after twelve years opened a drug store at 21 Hoosick street, forming copartnership with A. W. Loudon under the firm name of George. T. Butler & Co. He is a member of Apollo Lodge F. & A. M., and belongs to the State Pharmaceutical Association. In 1889 he married Miss Marry Elizabeth Shepardson of Troy.
