Biography of John S. Bulmer

Bulmer, John S., was born in the county of Durham, England, in 1848. He came to this country with his parents and settled in New York city and one year later came to Troy. He received his education in the public schools and learned the carpenter's trade, at which he worked sixteen years. He then with William Haynes formed the firm of Bummer & Haynes, contractors and builders, on the corner of Hill and Jefferson streets. Some of the finest buildings of Troy and vicinity have been erected by them, among them is the Young Women's Association building, the Russell Sage Memorial building, the Rowe Memorial building. and St. Joseph's Home. Mr. Bulmer was married to Ellen Costello of Troy, who died in 1882. He has two sons, William and John, jr.
