Biography of Edward Bolton
Rensselaer County, NY Biographies





Bolton, Edward, was born in County Donnegal, Ireland, April 26, 1830. His father, James Bolton, came to this country in 1832 and settled in Troy and was a prominent contractor of that time; he died in 1890 at the age of eighty three. His mother was Mary (Slevin) Bolton, and died in 1846. Edward was educated at private schools and entered Oak Grove Academy; after graduating from there he learned the trade of brickmason at which he worked until 1858, when he went into the coal business and be remained in the same business until he retired in the spring of 1895. He was assessor for several years and has been treasurer of St. Peter's church for thirty seven years. He was an active member of the old militia of Troy for twelve years. In 1852 he married Bridget E. Curley of Troy; she died. He has two sons and two daughters living and lost fourteen children. In June, 1896, he was appointed by the Board of Health as registrar of vital statistics.
