Rainier, Dr. Elvira, was born in Coldwater, Mich., on November 2, 1847. She is a daughter of the late Stephen
D. Rainier, of Marion, Wayne county, N. Y., and Sarah Husker, a native of England. Dr. Rainier received her education
in the schools at Coldwater and in the State Normal School at Ypsilanti, Mich. She entered the medical department
of the University of Michigan in 1872, where she pursued her professional studies two years. This was succeeded
by one year in the New England Hospital for Women and Children of Boston. Then followed a year of work to obtain
the means to finish her studies, after which she took her degree in the Woman's College of Philadelphia. She was
then appointed resident physician of a hospital in Philadelphia, to which work she gave one year. At the suggestion
of a classmate of Ann Arbor, Dr. Mary F. Lee, she came to Oswego, of which place she has since been a resident.
She enjoys the unqualified confidence and esteem of the profession; is a member of the Oswego County Medical Society,
and has been its secretary several years; was co attending physician at the Oswego City Hospital ten years, and
is now consulting physician in that institution.
