Matteson, Milton, was born May 26, 1842, in Mexico, a son of Wright Mattesou, who died aged fifty six. The latter
married Sallie Pond, who died aged eighty three, and their children were Andrew, Loyal, Julia, Lyman, Milton, Algernon
and Judson. The father was an officer in the State militia. Milton was educated at Mexico, and was first employed
in a tannery, after which he was in the government employ at Washington, D. C., one year as mail carrier between
Washington and Alexandria, Va. Returning home he enlisted in the 184th N. Y. Vols. and served in the Army of the
James one year. He had three brothers who also served during this war. He married Addle Chamberlain in 1867, a
daughter of George and Harriet Chamberlain of Richland, and their children are George, Lloyd, Nettie F. and Stanley.
