Gregg, Ambrose, was born in Madison county in 1833, a son of Rodney S. and Eunice (Rawson) Gregg, natives of
Vermont. They moved to Penneilville, Oswego county, in 1836, where they spent the remainder of their lives. The
father was a carpenter and built a hotel at Penneliville, and kept the same until his death, which occurred in
1851. Ambrose has kept the hotel since his father's death. His mother died in 1886. Ambrose married Robena Parker
in 1861, who died in 1887, leaving two children, Florence and Edith May. He served as postmaster thirtyfive years;
was revenue officer four years; commissioner of highways eight years; and quartermaster of the 88th N. Y. N. G.
during its existence. He married Mrs. Emily Butts, daughter of George Conrad, in 1893.
