Dain, John F., was born in Germany January 2, 1843, and came to Oswego in 1846. He was educated in Syracuse
and worked in a factory two years, then learned the upholstery trade, at which he worked seven years. He next opened
a furniture store in Oswego which he conducted eight years, then sold out and started the undertaking business
in 1872, which is the leading concern of the kind in the county. They carry a full stock of everything in that
line and manufacture a large portion of their own goods, keeping two hearses, as well as many carriages and horses.
They also do more or less livery business. Mr. Damn is a graduate of the Kalamazoo School in Embalming. He is a
member of St. Peter's Church. In 1864 he married Margaret, daughter of Nicholas and Mary Bookman of Syracuse, and
they have four children; John F., born November 25, 1865, who is in business with his father; Alice L., Charles
L., and Agnes S.
