Burns, Lawrence G., of Irish ancestry, was born in Ireland November 4, 1837. His grandfather, also of that country,
died aged seventy eight. His father, Moses, died in Oswego county aged eighty two. The latter married Margaret
Ashpole of Ireland, who died here aged eighty four. Their children were Anna, Patrick, Margaret, Thomas, Lawrence
G., and one other. The grandfather was a soldier in the British Army, and the father came to America in 1849 and
settled in Oneida county where he remained ten years, then came to Oswego county where he died. In 1862 Lawrence
G. enlisted in the 110th N. Y. Vols., and served three years. Retiring from the army he went into the employ of
the R. W. & O. Railroad at Oswego. Later in life he bought a farm in Riceland, where he still resides. He is
a member of the G. A. R. April 4, 1851, Mr. Burns married Aurelia, daughter of Asel and Rebecca Sampson. Their
children were Lawrence M. Thomas, Madison, Moses, Margaret, Anna and Rebecca (deceased). Mrs. Burns died in 1882,
and he married second in 1885 Julia, daughter of William and Alzina (Smith) March. The grandfather of Mrs. Burns
was killed by the Indians at Niagara Falls in 1812.
