Biography of H. M. Barrett

Barrett, H. M., attorney and counsellor at law and insurance agent, was justice of the peace of this town about twenty three years. He has been railroad commissioner for this town since 1876. He was born in Newport, Herkimer county, in 1825, and came to this town in 1855. He read law with N. B. Brower of Hannibal and Judge Tyler of Fulton, was admitted to the bar in 1869, and is still in practice here. He married Plum Ewing, who died December 11, 1893, leaving one son, H. Elbert, principal of one of the public schools of Syracuse for fourteen years. H. M. Barrett is a son of Hiram Barrett, a native of Newport, Herkimer county.
