Van Stone, James, was born in Devonshire, England, December 21, 1832, and came to America in 1853. He spent
twenty five years in the pursuit of dry wall building, at which he was very successful. He then began farming and
became one of the most noted stock raisers in this part of the State. He breeds Jersey cattle, Oxford sheep, Victoria
swine and a dozen varieties of poultry, and takes many of the premiums at the fairs. In 1859 Mr. Van Stone married
Mary Axtell, and they have two children, Jay C., and Mrs. George Anderson.
