Stevens, John H., was born September 23, 1839, on the farm where he now resides. He served nearly three years
in Company A, 151st N. Y. S. Vol. Infantry. He was wounded at the battle of Mine Run November 27, 1863, transferred
to the Veteran Reserve Corps and detailed as clerk in the provost marshal general's office at Washington. He was
discharged May 10, 1865. His first wife was Alice A. Andrews, a native of Ridgeway, who died November 28, 1875,
leaving two sons, one, George A., now living at Buffalo, N. Y., the other, Avery T., dying March 22, 1881. His
present wife was Mary D. Clapp, also a native of Ridgeway, and they have one daughter, Florence.
