Stevens, Herbert R., was a resident and business man in Albion from 1872 to 1879, and during that period gained
an extensive acquaintance in the town and vicinity, and was looked upon as one of the most enterprising merchants
of the county. He was a native, of Oakfield, born in 1846, and was the younger of two sons of Richard and Elizabeth
Stevens of that town. He lived on a farm until he was eighteen, and then became clerk in a hardware store in Oakfield.
Later on he engaged in business for himself, and was also in business in Iowa three years. He returned from the
West and finding an opportunity for business at Albion, he moved to the village and became partner to George M.
Waterman. This relation was maintained until the death of Mr. Stevens in November, 1879. In Oakfield August 9,
1868, our subject married Ettie G., adopted daughter of Asa R Woodruff. Mr. and Mrs. Stevens had four children,
two of whom are still living.
