Slack, John, was born in Ireland April 2, 1838, and came to America with his parents in 1850. He began work
in this country as a water carrier and after being employed in various capacities for twenty one years, in 1871
he went into the grocery business with his brother, Michael Slack. This business has been most successful from
the first and is today one of the best and soundest establishments in Orleans county. Mr. Slack married Winfred
O'Marrow in 1860. She died in 1870 leaving three children, one of whom is dead. He married Mary Lester in 1876.
He had seven children living and two deceased. Of those living four are sons and three daughters. Mr. Slack is
a prominent member of the C. M. B. A. and the C. B. L. societies of Medina.
