Lockwood, Henry C., was born at Chestertown. Warren county, N. Y., December 9, 1848. His father, Henry F. Lockwood,
being a son of Col. Jeremiah Lockwood, who served in the war of 1812. The subject of this sketch came to Holley,
Orleans county, N. Y., in the fall of 1871, and for six and one half years was employed in the general store of
H. G. Newton. In 1878 he succeeded Mr. Newton in the dry goods business, and has since that time carried on a general
dry goods, carpet and wall paper business. He has held the office of school trustee of the village and is prominently
identified with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which he is a member, holding at present the office of trustee
and steward. He is a member of the Murray Lodge No. 380 F. & A. M. He is also national vice president of the
National Protective Legion, an insurance company which gives benefits to living members at actual cost, paying
them $500 in five year periods. In 1871 Mr. Lockwood was married to Mary Van Benthuysen and they have had five
children, two sons and two daughters are living.
