Kast, John T., was a native of Alsace, France, born May 8, 1816, and was the son of a farmer. John came to this
county at the age of nineteen, located at Rome, Oneida county, where his uncle lived, and for whom he went to work
on a farm. Mr. Kast lived in that vicinity about twenty one years. January 4, 1844, he married Barbara Baker, and
in 1848 he bought a small farm in Oneida county, on which he lived eight years, then sold and came to Albion. His
original purchase here was a fifty acre farm, to which he has added twenty acres more, and in 1883 he purchased
the Tooley farm of 51 acres, which is located one half mile east of Barre Springs. The children of John T. and
Barbara Kast have been as follows: Elizabeth, Albert, John, Caroline, William and Mary. Mr. Kast is remembered
among Albion's successful farmers. In politics he is a Republican, but has never sought public office. Both he
