Goodwin, Elias M., was born in Onondaga county N. Y., January 22, 1816. In 1841 he married Amanda Benedict and
moved to Ridgeway, Orleans county, N. Y., and settled on the farm where he now resides. They had six boys: Ossian
D., who resides in Yates; Egbert B. (deceased); Elbert C. (deceased); George S. (deceased); Frank E., who resides
on the old homestead, and Charles W., who is a locomotive engineer on the Missouri Pacific Railroad, resides in
Sedalia, Mo. One son, Egbert B., was three years a private in Company D, 8th N. Y. Heavy Artillery, in the late
civil war; wounded at Cold Harbor, contracted consumption in the army after being wounded, and died in April, 1872.
His first wife died in 1876. He again married, Mrs. Louisa M. Smith, June 7, 1877. Mrs. Goodwin is a daughter of
Simon Holland, who was a widely known man in Monroe county, N. Y.
