Ely, Benjamin, was born in Clarendon, Orleans county, in 1842. His father, George, came from Springfield, Mass.,
in 1830, and settled in Clarendon. He was a farmer and a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, of Clarendon.
About 1855 he settled in Murray, where he resided till his death in 1874. He married Maria Cummings, and they were
the parents of seven children: James, Ann M., William, George, Benjamin, Harriet, and Abigail. James Ely settled
in Indiana and died there. He married Victoria Sackett. Ann M. married Wallace Grace and settled in Pennsylvania;
Abigail died unmarried; William, George, Benjamin and Harriet are unmarried. Benjamin has always been engaged in
farming in Murray.
