Colby, M. H., was born in Ogden, Monroe county, August 23, 1839. He followed farming until 1880, when he came
to Medina, excepting during three years service in the War of the Rebellion. He enlisted August 31, 1862, in the
New York Light Artillery, and served until June 23, 1865. He was with the army of the Potomac until the battle
of Gettsyburg, in which he participated, and was then with Sherman on his march to the sea. He is commander of
Hood Post in Medina. In 1866 Mr. Colby married Mary Ann Adams. They have two daughters, Minnis J. and Ella N. The
latter is a teacher in the Medina Academy, where she has taught five successive years. Mr. Colby is a member of
the Odd Fellows, Knights of Honor and Royal Templars.
