SAMUEL L. KNIFFIN, of Goshen, N. Y., was born at Chester in 1843. In 1863 he came to Goshen with his parents,
and learned the tinsmith trade under the tuition of his father, who for many years had charge of the tinning department
for J. W. Corwin & Co. Mr. Kniffin has remained in the same store, now owned by Knifing & Hopkins, and
for many years has served as foreman of the tin shop. He married Sarah, daughter of Gabriel Bennett, of Goshen,
and they have a daughter Carrie, who married. Charles B. Coleman, of Goshen. Mr. Kniffin is a democrat and has
served as town clerk of Goshen and for many years has been village trustee.
