Wattengel, M. J., was born in Germany, September 6, 1848, and came to America with his parents in 1853. They
settled in La Salle and he learned the tinner's trade and then went into the hardware business in North Tonawanda.
This business he conducted for sixteen years, when he sold out and embarked in the livery and undertaking business.
Mr. Wattengel is an active Republican and has been treasurer of the village five years and trustee two years; he
has also been school trustee three years and has been a delegate for his party many times. He is a member of the
Masonic fraternity, of the Iroquois and the Select Knights. In 1872 he married Lottie Rich, and they have ten children:
Christopher A., W. F., Alfred, Norman, Ada, Cora, Lulu, Mabel, Edna and Zella.
