Pettit, Thomas, was born in Galway. Saratoga county, N. Y., February 1, 1818, a son of Thomas Pettit. He was educated in the common schools, and in 1844 came to Wilson, where he took up a farm of fifty acres, where he has since lived. November, 22, 1843, he married Emily Wait (born in Clifton Park, Saratoga county, N. Y). daughter of Solomon and Rachael (Harris) Wait, and they have five children: George A., of Flint, Mich.; Ida E., wife of Ambrose Haner of Wilson; Eva R., wife of Frederick Kelley, a farmer of Wilson, and they have two children: Thomas B., of Grand Rapids. Mich., and Martha E., wife of Charles Stabler, of Lockport. Mr. Pettit is a Republican, and the family attend the Baptist church.
