Allen, Norman O., an enterprising and successful real estate and loan agent of Lockport and one of the most.respected
citizens, was born in the town of Wilson, Niagara county, N. Y., December 5, 1840, a son of Parmer and Mary (Tower)
Allen. He was educated in the public schools and the Wilson Academy; after finishing his schooling he was engaged
in farming until the breaking out of the war, when he enlisted in the 28th N. Y. Infantry as corporal and was promoted
to sergeant and when mustered out in June, 1863, held the office of second lieutenant. After the war he returned
to Lockport and was appointed deputy sheriff under James D. Ames from 1864 to 1867. He was afterward under sheriff
for three years and then elected sheriff for a term of three years: since that time he has been engaged in the
real estate and loan business. He was married in 1874 to Mary Stebbins of Lockport.
