Block, Fritz C., supervisor of the town of Sullivan, was born in Germany, November 24, 1854, a son of Frederick
and Sophia (Schrom) Block. When he was fourteen years old his parents came to this country, settling at Chittenango
Station, where his father still lives at the advanced age of seventy two years. Mr. Block was educated in the common
schools and began his business experience in the general store of James T. Burton, for whom he worked some time.
He subsequently went into business for himself, and conducted a general store at Chittenango several years. Mr.
Block is now manager of the Madison County Celery Company, is extensively engaged in handling country produce,
and also deals in coal. He is widely known in this section, and is considered one of the representative citizens
of the county. His townsmen have frequently honored him with positions of public trust; he has served as collector,
as highway commissioner several times, and, as supervisor of Sullivan township, an office he still fills. Fraternally
he is a member of the A. O. U. W. He married, in 1892, Margaret M. Smith, daughter of Patrick Smith of De Ruyter.
Two sons have been born of this union: Frederick Carl and Burton Smith Block.
