Biography of Silas R. Washburn

Washburn, Silas R., was born in the town of Hounsfield, May 21, 1838, was educated in the district schools and follows the honorable occupation of farming. April 24, 1863, he married Esther Stoodley, and they have two sons: William W. and Homer T., both farmers at home with their parents. Mr. Washburn's father, Robert Washburn, was born in Greenbush, Saratoga county, N. Y., in 1804, and came to this county when fourteen years old. He married Emeline Manley of Hounsfield, and they had eight children: Hiram, Stephen, Silas R., Newton M., George L., Theodore, Wallace and Lydia. Mr. Washburn died in the fall of 1876 and his widow in 1888. Mrs. Washburn's father, William Stoodley, was born in Devonshire, England, in 1803; was educated there, and married Elizabeth Lane of his native place and came to the United States, locating in Jefferson county. They had these children: Sarah, Jane, Esther, Fannie, Amos, Minerva and Charles. Mr. Stoociley died in 1883 and his widow in 1885.
