Paris, Charles M., a native of Lewis county, N. Y. was born in 1838. His early
life was spent on a farm and as a tanner. In 1874 he removed to Jefferson county and engaged in farming in Rutland,
where he remained until 1875, when he removed to the city of Watertown and engaged in the grocery business and
after a time embarked again in the tannery business, operating the Hall and Farwell tanneries of that city. In
1882 lie was appointed justice of the peace, to fill an unexpired term, and lie so ably conducted the affairs of
the office that lie was favored with two more terms and afterward refused the third. Mr. Paris is a prominent member
of the Masonic fraternity, the I. O. O. F. and the Royal Arcanum.
