Maxon, Rufus L., was born in Brookfleld, Madison county, N. Y., March 24, 1828, and came to this town with his
parents when a child. He was educated in the district schools and finished his education in the Polytechnic Institute
at Troy, N. Y. He is a surveyor and farmer by occupation. He has married twice, first in 1858, to Helen A. Warren,
and they had four children; one died in infancy, and the others are: Frank E., Minnie L. and Benjamin M. Mrs. Maxon
died in 1870, and in 1872 Mr. Maxon married Sarah D. Hall, and they have three children: Willet R., Faith R. and
Leonard R. Frank E. married Anna Graham, and they have one son, John R.; Frank died in 1880. Minnie is a professional
nurse. Benjamin M. married Jessie Hayes, and they have a daughter, Mary L. Willet R. married Bessie Brown, of Michigan,
and they have a daughter not named. Faith R. married George Gillmore, and Leonard R. is in school at Binghamton.
Mr. Maxon's father, Benjamin Maxon, was born at the old home in Madison county, N. Y., in 1800. He married twice,
first to Lucy Ives, and they had two children: Sophia F. and Rufus L (as above). Mrs. Maxon died in 1845,and for
his second wife he married Hannah Gilbert, and they had tWo children: Ellen L. and Gilbert. Mr. Maxon was a member
of the State Legislature and died in 1874, his widow in 1891. Rufus L. Maxon is a thorough Republican and has been
assessor several years. The ancestors of the family are of Connecticut and Rhode Island origin.
