Bennett, Dexter, was born in Lewis county, N Y., October 12, 1839, a son of William and Sophia (Allis) Bennett,
natives of Lowville, N.Y., and in 1841 came to Philadelphia, where they settled on a farm and he died in 1885;
his wife in 1887. The maternal grandfather was William Allis, who came to Philadelphia about 1837 and there lived
and died; his wife was Betsey Barber. Dexter was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools and Lowville
Academy. He is a farmer and stock dealer, having a farm of 330 acres. Mr. Bennett is a Republican in politics,
but not an aspirant to office. September 25, 1861, he married Eunice, daughter of William York, and they had four
children: Clarence D., a farmer; Helen G., who died April 1, 1893; Eliza A., died March 13, 1887. and William B.,
at home. Clarence D. married Mattie Ford of Philadelphia, and they have two children: William D. and Grace E.
