Washburn, John (deceased), was born in Hillsdale, Columbia county, N. Y., October 21, 1821, a son of Cornelius
and Maria (Vanderburg) Washburn of Dutchess county, N. Y. He came to Darien, Genesee county, in 1856 and in 1862
came to Batavia, where he was a farmer three years and afterward a hotel keeper. April 30, 1843, Mr. Washburn married
Lavina Loomis; they have one child living, a son, George C. Mrs. Washburn is a daughter of Beeder and Pony (Root)
Loomis, natives of Great Barrington, Mass., where Mrs. Washburn was born January 28, 1823. Mr. Washburn was an
enterprising man of unquestioned integrity; politically he was a Democrat. His death occurred October 7, 1897,
as he was nearing his 76th birthday.
