Bernard Schad was born in Darien, February 10, 1855. In 1877 he settled in Batavia, and in 1879 opened a carriage
shop on State street, where he carried on the business four years. In 1884 he invented the Schad bicycle wheel
and began manufacturing the same. In 1887 he invented improvements on it, and it is now used in every State in
the Union. In 1888 he invented a novel carriage wheel, which he has been manufacturing since. He also, in 1888,
invented the Schad broomholder, which he manufactures.
