Samuel Winchell, born in Monroe County, N. Y., married Cornelia, daughter of Ashur Merrill, and located in Orleans
County. He was a blacksmith, and came to Alabama about 1854. Their children were Mary Ann, who married Schuyler
Starkweather; Melissa, who married Lorenzo Horning, and lives in the West; and Lyman W., of Alabama. The father
died in 1861, and the mother in 1888.
