Erie County, NY Biographies


Wippert, George, Buffalo, was born in the town of Schopfheim, Baden, Germany, October 4, 1835. In 1854 he emigrated with his parents to America, settling in Buffalo. His first business employment was in the carpet store of D. M. Grant, where he remained four years, when he accepted a position with the carpet house of Hamlin & Menson, as a salesman, in whose employ he remained for a period of thirteen years. He then entered the store of Adam, Meidrum & Co. and remained in that establishment until 1890, when he opened a carpet house on his own account, at 945 Main street, where be has since conducted a large and growing business. He was married September 18, 1864, to Adeline Geneva, of Buffalo.
