Wheeler, Charles A., Hamburg, p. o. Lakevview, was born in Fitchburg, Mass., February 14, 1861. He is a graduate
of the High School and took a mechanical course in Stevens Institute of Technology at Hoboken, N. Y. He was apprenticed
as a tool maker with the Putnam Tool Company and has followed the business with some of the best firms of the country.
He was assistant superintendent with Edison's Phonograph Company three years; was two years with the American Graphophone
Company as experimenter in their experimental laboratory at Washington, D. C.; was associated with the Columbia
Typewriter Company one year; also with the Western Electric Company of New York city one year, and with the Garwin
Machine Company of New York city one year as foreman of the tool department. He was assistant superintendent of
the Union Twist Drill Company of Boston, Mass., nearly three years, and was associated with the Clark Machine Company
of Turner's Falls, Mass., as superintendent two years, and as traveling salesman for two years. In March, 1895,
he entered the employ of the Queen City Bicycle Company of Buffalo, N. Y., was foreman of the tool department until
they removed to their new factory at Idlewood in the western part of Hamburg, N. Y., and in August of the same
year, became assistant superintendent and foreman. In May, 1896, he was promoted to general superintendent. November
11, 1895, he married Bessie B. Harell of Paterson, N. J. He is a member of Mechanics' Lodge, Turner's Fafls, Mass.,
F. & A. M., and in political choice is a Republican.
